Dishonour

Dishonour is the cinematic version of a one-woman play that explores the terrifying practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) and its implications for an African family that are recent immigrants to the United Kingdom.  A stellar performance by Mimi Ndiweni, who plays all six of the story’s characters, guides viewers through the complexity of an ancient tradition that survives to this day.   We watch as five-year ‘Babe’ is caught in a struggle between her father’s wish to assimilate the family into Western culture and her great aunt’s desire to hold on to patriarchal gender roles including the practice of FGM.

Dishonour was nominated for best online theatrical production at the Edinburgh Fringe 2021

Dishonour was a 2019 Oscar consideration in the Live Action Short Film category.

Dishonour was produced by Calendar Films.
